Solo

Roof Rool

Michel Wintsch piano solo

downbeat article

It’s like a dance. Hands dancing and waltzing above the keyboard, in a silent but moving energy.
Gesture before the sound.
Fingers hit the air, hit the keys without pushing them, hit the edge of the piano, in a choreography that let only a part of the sounds go out in the piano, but produces all kind of « ghost » sounds, audible for the pianist which is just above, but not for the listener which is on the other side of the piano, beyond the hammers, the strings, the sounding board.
It’s very physical, bodily, and allows to infuse a lot of energy in tiny or sometimes fragile sounds. It allows to be in motion, in constant vibration with the body, and let the music flow through  this physical involvement.

The recording process seeks to capture that movement, that choreography.

The music is not so much improvised.
It is prepared, choreographed.
Some type of gesture causes a certain type of sound. This gestures are rehearsed and worked, and this  is in itself a form of composition.
There are also compounds objects, fragment of melody, specific harmonies, riffs, which are like the words of a vocabulary. All this will be combined, gestures, dance, compound objects, following the inspiration and energy of the moment.

As for artistic inspiration, it remains, in my view, of the order of the intimate, the private, the mystery.
It consists of the myriad of events that constitutes a life, a life spent listening, walking, searching for vibrations, breaths, beauty and emotion.
I would like to open a space where the listener is free to resonate in his own way, and be able to feel, through the sounds, that vibration is life.

METAPIANO

Michel Wintsch: piano, analog synthetizers, feet devices

Distillerie clandestine
